As you all know, we’ve had a blast organizing the ShareGrid showcases last year with our friends at Wrapal, utilizing many of their amazing locations and event-managing prowess. Now, we’re happy to report that our circle of friends has grown even larger after their acquisition by Toronto-based startup, Set Scouter. Together, they create the largest film locations database in North America.

Like ShareGrid, both companies were launched in the early-mid 2010s and were the first peer-to-peer marketplaces of their kind that connected filmmakers to film locations in Canada and the United States. In the seven years since, both startups became known as the ‘Airbnb of film locations’ (in the same way ShareGrid was known as the ‘Airbnb of camera rentals’) – albeit in different markets; with Set Scouter targeting Canada and secondary American film markets such as New York, Chicago, and Miami, while Wrapal focused on the heartland of the film industry, Los Angeles, greater West Coast region, and some New York locations.

Instead of having two rival regions competing for attention, filmmakers can search for and book a consolidated inventory of tens of thousands of film locations in major cities throughout North America while property owners can list their spaces for free knowing that thousands of top brands, music producers, and film productions across the continent might want to rent their space for filming. We think that’s a win-win for filmmakers and properties alike!

And speaking of win, we’re happy to also announce that if ShareGrid users mention the Wrapal Acquisition to Set Scouter during their next booking, they can get $100 off booking fees for their next production.

On personal note, we’ve personally witnessed both startups develop rapidly over the years and are happy that they chose to collaborate rather than compete. Here at ShareGrid, we’re all about streamlining the production process and hope to continue working with the joint Wrapal-Set Scouter team in disrupting all aspects of the industry together.
